Cluster Cameras: an alternative to RDC or Mobile units The Cluster Camera Units installed by Videcom over the last 2 years have proven to be effective tools in deterring crime and assisting the Police in solving crimes.
The recorded images are of evidential quality and easily accessible. As a stand-alone solution, Cluster Cameras provide a low cost, low maintenance alternative to full function Town Centre system cameras – Cluster units are “high profile”. By ensuring that the images recorded are not wide area views but “targeted” views, the Police have become converts to these installations, accepting Clusters where cost considerations prohibit greater expenditure. These camera sites are simple to install, always utilising an existing street lighting pole with full-time power – notwithstanding lighting companies and/or municipal agreement. The security enclosure for the recorder is mounted typically 4 metres above ground allowing simple access by the keyholder with the use of small steps. Wireless communication with these sites is often now practical with the latest Codecs and free to air wavebands. In addition the recorder has a LAN socket for connection to a wireless LAN transmitter (optional extra). This allows viewing of images either “live” or for download of recorded images without physical contact with the cluster camera installation. A four Camera Cluster unit with recorder cost typically under £6000 fully installed and operational.
